Best Intercity discount codes in New Zealand for November 2026
Find verified Intercity promo codes and the latest savings available today
This Intercity page is checked and updated bi-weekly, which helps me track fare promotions that appear throughout the year. During my time at CupoNation New Zealand, I learnt that Intercity offers discounted Flexi Fares for seniors aged 65 years and over who are New Zealand citizens. Students can also access special fares. A friend travelling with family recently benefited from selecting the correct passenger types during booking, which reduced overall costs without changing travel plans.
Exploring Aotearoa without a car can be surprisingly straightforward when you use InterCity's long-distance coach network, which connects major cities and regional destinations across New Zealand. For students, backpackers and travellers planning several stops, a travel pass may offer better value than buying individual tickets. One InterCity TravelPass deal we've highlighted was priced at NZ$117, giving travellers a fixed-price option for journeys covered by that particular pass. Rather than treating NZ$117 as a guaranteed saving, we recommend comparing the pass price with the separate fares for your planned route, since the actual benefit depends on where and how often you travel. We keep looking for InterCity offers that help you explore more of New Zealand while keeping transport costs manageable.

This deal is worth understanding because it is not a blanket discount; it is a limited fare that rewards people who plan early. InterCity makes at least one NZ$1 fare available on every nationwide bus service it operates, so the opportunity exists across routes, but availability is limited by seat allocation.
How it works in practice is simple.
For every InterCity bus operated nationwide, there is at least one NZ$1 fare available.
Their timetables are published a year in advance, so you can plan your journey early and secure the deal before it disappears.
On top of the NZ$1 fare, you can also apply an InterCity promo code to save more on your bus fare, which can be useful if the NZ$1 seats are already gone on your preferred time and route.
One planning tactic that works well is searching routes as soon as timetables open, then choosing slightly off-peak departures if your schedule allows. The difference in availability can be significant, and it can be the difference between a NZ$1 fare and a standard-priced seat.
Intercity gift cards are available online in fixed values of NZ$25, NZ$50, NZ$100, NZ$200 and NZ$500. They work well for occasions such as honeymoons or anniversaries, where travel flexibility is appreciated. Instead of guessing routes or dates, gifting credit allows the recipient to plan on their own schedule. We see this as a practical option for meaningful experiences without locking someone into a fixed itinerary.
Travelling with Intercity includes free checked baggage plus two carry-ons, with oversized luggage costing an additional NZ$10. Knowing this in advance helps you pack efficiently and avoid unexpected transport fees. We recommend checking your luggage dimensions before departure, since paying a small excess fee is manageable, but being unprepared at the station can cause delays and unnecessary stress.
